⇒ John Bauters wants to be your County Supervisor.
⇒ But he isn’t who he says he is.
⇒ Bauters just can’t be trusted.
Bauters is anti-labor: he led efforts to overturn the minimum wage increase and is opposed by Alameda Labor Council.
As an Emeryville City Councilmember, John Bauters said he was on the side of working families but he wasn’t. Bauters led the charge to overturn a minimum wage increase that labor leaders fought for, and attempted to cap wages for certain workers! Labor unions and working families OPPOSE John Bauters because he can’t be trusted to be on the side of working families.
“Councilman John Bauters, who had proposed the amendment to pause the wage increase…”

“Councilmember Bauters led a drive to drive down the wages of the poorest working people in Emeryville when as mayor, he rolled back Emeryville’s landmark and progressive Minimum Wage Ordinance. Actual low paid workers struggling to make it on minimum wage were going to have their wages cut if Bauters had been successful.”

Under Bauters, Emeryville was named America’s #1 most dangerous small town and California’s most dangerous city
Bauters says he is “committed to restoring public safety in Alameda County,” but under his watch Emeryville has been named “America’s #1 most dangerous small town” and “California’s most dangerous city” in multiple recent years because of its high crime rates.
And Bauters once said defunding police was “a prudent question to ask….”

Bauters is bought and paid for by developers, even being called a ‘developers’ shill.
Special interests are spending big to elect Bauters – showing Bauters is bought and paid for by special interests. His biggest donors are developers and cannabis, pharmaceutical and cryptocurrency executives.
An Independent Expenditure Committee supporting Bauters is almost entirely funded by corporate interests, including $10,000 from PG&E and thousands more from big developers. No wonder a pro-developer group once listed Bauters among “Developer Shills.”

While running on an affordable housing platform, NOT A SINGLE Unit of affordable housing has been completed through initiatives proposed by Bauters.
John Bauters HAS FAILED on affordable housing. Under Bauters, almost all of the apartment units approved in Emeryville have been market-rate, while developers have donated tens of thousands of dollars to his campaigns and a PAC supporting his supervisor campaign.
Not a single unit of affordable housing has been built with the funds from the single ballot measure that Bauters claims he helped pass. Voters approved Measure C, a $50 million affordable housing bond, in 2018, but not a single unit of affordable housing has been built with the funds. And a 91-unit project planned with the money will cost an estimated $1 million per unit.
